community-based participatory research

Community-Based Participatory Research: SEG uses Community-Based Participatory Research (CBRP) practices to promote equitable participation among stakeholders, community members, and subject matter experts in order to facilitate a co-learning process whereby the collective identifies priorities and interventions that are most important and effective within their own communities. As a result, the quality and validity of findings are strengthened, and the community is empowered to take ownership of change efforts.

Strategic Prevention Framework: SEG sees evaluations as cyclical and not as just the end product of a program. For this reason, SEG helps organizations integrate evaluation into each step of their Strategic Prevention Framework instead of treating evaluations as add-ons or to last-steps of the framework. Since data are interpreted and shared at every step of the process, there are plenty of opportunities to adjust strategies to obtain the best outcomes.

9 Principles of CBPR
  1. The community is a unit of identity.
  2. There are strengths and resources within the community.
  3. Equitable partnership between all parties is essential.
  4. CBPR promotes reciprocal capacity & knowledge building.
  5. There is a focus on interventions that benefit the majority.
  6. By using an ecological perspective, CBPE focuses on improving social and health conditions.
  7. CBPR uses an iterative approach.
  8. CBPR involves partners in the dissemination process.
  9. CBPR commits to sustainability.
